Our main interests are spintronics, spin-caloritronics, spin transport, superconductivity, graphene, topological insulators.

Prof. Bauer moved to AIMR.

Prof. Bauer retires.
We all appreciate him and his great works in this lab.
He was a good boss because more than instructions, he gave us direction and inspiration. Happy retirement.
2019-08-01 | Prof. Jiang Xiao, Dr. Tao Yu, and Dr. Alejandro O. Leon visit our lab for collaborative researches
Prof. Jiang Xiao is currently a professor at Physics Department of Fudan University, China. Prof. Xiao has contributed significantly to the field of magnetism and spintronics over the years. Dr. Tao Yu is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Prof. Bauer and Prof Yaroslav Blanter group at Kavli Institute of Nanoscience, TU Delft, Netherlands. His research is currently focussed on optomagnonics and chirality of magnons. Dr. Alejandro O. Leon is currently an assistant professor at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso (PUCV), Chile. His collaborative research involves rare earth spintronics. We wish them a fruitful stay in our lab.
2019-04-01 | Dr. Koji Kobayashi has been promoted to assistant professor
We are happy to announce that Dr. Koji Kobayashi has become an assistant professor in our group. He got his PhD at Sophia University, working on critical phenomena in disordered topological systems with Professor Tomi Ohtsuki. His current research is on numerical calculations of quantum transport in topological materials. We wish him success in his current and future endeavors.
2019-04-01 | Dr. Ryota Nakai joins the lab as an assistant professor
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Ryota Nakai has assumed an assistant professor position in our group. He was previously in RIKEN. His main research interest is transport phenomena in topological materials. We wish him a fruitful research in Bauer lab.
2019-04-01 | Dr. Weichao Yu joins the lab as an assistant professor
We are happy to welcome Dr. Weichao Yu as a new assistant professor in our group. He was a postdoctoral researcher at Fudan University. His previous research interest was magnetic texture based magnonics. His future research interests will include spin cavitronics, neuromorphic computing based on spintronic devices, as well as magnonics. We wish him a successful journey in his research activities.
2019-03-31 | Assistant Professor Oleg A. Tretiakov moves to UNSW
Prof. Tretiakov has moved to UNSW Sydney as a senior lecturer. In his time in the Bauer lab, he contributed significantly to the field of spintronics with major and impactful publications and research achievements. We wish him continuation of success in his new position.
2019-01-15 | Dr. Alejandro O. Leon and Dr. Adam B. Cahaya visit for a collaborative research
Dr. Leon was a former postdoctoral researcher in the Bauer lab, and he currently is assistant professor at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso (PUCV) in Chile. Dr. Cahaya was a former PhD student in the Bauer lab, and is now a lecturer in Universitas Indonesia. They are visiting the lab for a collaborative project with Prof. Bauer. We welcome them and wish them a productive stay.
2018-12-01 | Mehrdad Elyasi starts his assistant professor position in the lab
We are pleased to announce that Mehrdad Elyasi initiates his assistant professor position in the Bauer-lab. He did his PhD in National University of Singapore and joined Bauer-lab as a JSPS postdoctoral fellow in Nov. 2016. He continues his presence in the lab as GP-Spin assistant professor. His current research focus is on quantum coherence in magnonics.
2018-11-28 | Assistant Professor Yasufumi Araki moves to JAEA
Prof. Araki has moved to Advanced Science Research Center at Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) to assume a tenure track position. In his time in Bauer-lab, he had significant research achievements and contributed to nurturing the undergraduate and master students. We wish him continued success in his new academic position.
2018-10-01 | Assistant Professor Joseph Barker moves to Leeds University
Prof. Barker has moved to School of Physics and Astronomy, Condensed Matter Group at Leeds University to undertake his Royal Society Fellowship. He contributed significantly to several spintronics research disciplines, and had a major role in training students. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
2017-03-01 | Assistant Professor Takahashi moves to Saitoh Lab as Associate Professor
Takahashi-sensei has moved to a new position as Associate Professor in Saitoh Lab. We are sad to see him leave Bauer Lab and thank him for his valuable contributions to the group over the years. We wish him all the best in his new position.
2017-02-13 | Koji Sato joins the lab as assistant professor
We're very pleased to announce that Koji Sato has joined Bauer Lab as an assistant professor. Sato-san is a specialist in the theory of spintronics and topological insulators. He completed his PhD at UCLA under the supervision of Yaroslav Tserkovnyak before working as an assistant professor in WPI-AIMR, Tohoku University.
2016-09-29 | Visit of Dr Masahiro Misawa
Dr Mashiro Misawa from the Institute for Solid State Physics (ISSP) - University of Tokyo is visiting Bauer Lab for 2 weeks. He received his Ph. D from the University of Tokyo in 2008 with Professor Masatoshi Imada, working on critical phenomena in strongly correlated electron systems. He highly developed the variational Monte-Carlo method to study strong correlation effects. During his visit, he will be working on strongly correlating topological materials.
2016-05-26 | Lunch with Nobel Laureate Prof. Grünberg
Professor Peter Grünberg who won the Nobel prize in physics for his pioneering work on the giant magnetoresistance joined Bauer lab for lunch during his visit for the IMR centenary celebrations. Prof. Grünberg is a regular visitor to Sendai, giving invited talks and student seminars.
2016-01-30 | Zao Workshop 2016
This annual workshop, established between the research groups of Gerrit Bauer (IMR) and Gen Tatara (RIKEN) serves as a platform for discussion of recent developments in condensed matter physics. Speakers associated with the Bauer and Tatara groups are invited (from Japan and internationally) and talks are aimed to promote discussion of recent or even incomplete work. It also serves as an opportunity for young researchers to present their work and to expand their peer group across Japan and the world.
